As those of you who follow me on Snapchat and are privy to the ins and outs of my life in perhaps more detail than strictly necessary will know, earlier this week I had two shoots back to back in an eight look, multi location bonanza. You may also have spotted a few iconic gold packets around the place emblazoned with the instantly recognisable logo, YSL Beauty…
After developing somewhat of a fear of makeup thanks to some truly shameful glittery eyeshadow experiences as a teenager, over the past couple of years I’ve got over that and embraced its magical possibilities to transform your face, look and persona. Nothing, in my opinion, is more powerful in that respect than lipstick. A bold lip colour can instantly give the wearer a sense of confidence, elegance, fun, power… Pretty much anything you want it to. No one knows this better than YSL Beauty who have been empowering and inspiring women with their Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks since 1978. Back then, the concept of giving women the opportunity to adorn their lips with couture colours was both revolutionary and empowering. Almost 40 years later, in a time of seemingly limitless makeup opportunities Rouge Pur Couture remains as beloved and coveted as ever with an ever increasing rainbow of shades making it the ultimate instant image transforming tool.
As I’m sure you’ve clocked from my beauty “how to’s”, I have a serious, serious love for YSL Beauty. When they invited me to interpret the iconic Rouge Pur Couture collection I leapt at the opportunity and immediately started scheming about how I could do something fun and original that would express the unique power of the collection and what makes it so special. The thing that particularly struck me about Rouge Pur Couture is the possibility of creating a lipstick wardrobe. Even with no other makeup, one lip colour can instantly adapt your look to whatever style fits your mood, outfit and the occasion. So I decided to style 5 very different outfits to match 5 very different Rouge Pur Couture shades and explore how something as simple as a lip colour change can act as the most important tool in taking on different personas. On a more basic level, I wanted to show how you don’t need to spend hours on hair and makeup to create a look or go from day to night. Just a slick of deep purple can fast track the wearer from office appropriate or Saturday morning brunch casual to all out vamp; a 5 minute transformation that doesn’t require sacrificing hours attempting to tackle a smoky eye or elaborate ‘do. In the context of today’s fast paced, non stop world where time is the ultimate luxury and women are under constant pressure – both internal and external – to work harder and faster, strive, compete with men, each other and themselves all while looking their best, this is very empowering I think.
No.10 Beige Tribute
I’m not usually one for nude lipstick but may have to change my tune after this experience with YSL Beauty’s Beige Tribute. While still casual and understated enough to keep this relaxed outfit as chill as intended, it adds a subtle polish and warmth to the look/my face. In conclusion, more nude hues happening soon and this baby will have a permanent place in my handbag.
No.49 Rose Tropical
My love for this lip colour needs no explanation, you guys know my feelings about the colour pink and all things sunglass-needingly bright. With a pink fur trimmed tee, glittery skirt and shiny stilettos there was really no other option that YSL Beauty’s Rose Tropical shade.
No.13 Le Orange
Thought orange lipstick was just for summer? I know I always have but that opinion has been revised, big time. I mean, when wouldn’t you want to add extra “pop” to a casual yet colour popping look!? There’s something about a super bright coral shade that I think works really well for the daytime… Ideally when co-ordinated with more coral and cobalt blue.
No.01 Le Rouge
To call YSL Beauty’s Rouge Pur Couture lipstick collection “extensive” would be like referring to Karlie Kloss as “good looking” or Valentino Rockstud pumps as “decent shoes” i.e. an understatement so ridiculous it’s borderline offensive. There are countless colours to play with and my choices of which to indulge in for this post where basically endless. Regardless, no way in hell was I even going to consider not featuring the brand’s most iconic hue, Le Rouge. Red lipstick goes with literally everything but I decided to channel a little Dolce Vita ladylike glam (well, ish) with a simple leather pencil skirt and black poloneck combination, plus leopard print heels.
No.49 Pourpre Divin
I don’t like to play favourites but this lipstick… I cannot get enough and will be vamping up my look with Pourpre Divin non stop going forward. What was something of a revelation to me was the fact that literally just adding a deep purple lip transformed my visage so dramatically despite the rest of my makeup remaining super understated. No need to spend God knows how long attempting to tackle charcoal hued eye shadow if you don’t want to. Just a a slick of Pouvre Divin and BAM! Insta-badass.

Huge thanks to Embassy Gardens and Ballymore Group for providing such a gorgeous location. I would not say no to moving in tomorrow!
